First of all, write down everything you already know about yourself, your parents, your grandparents and any other relations you know about; cousins, aunts and uncles.
Once you have it written down, you may think to yourself that you really don’t know much. Don’t worry about that now, just getting it down on paper is the best start you could have.
Start at home. Document your own life first by gathering information and records about your birth, christening or other childhood ceremony’s, marriage, graduation, military service, etc.
Look around the attic for old photographs, documents, old letters, diaries, newspaper clippings, and family Bibles. Check the basement too if you have one. Ask your parents, grandparents and other relatives about such items also.
